12s @ LASC Spring Challenge
For the last four years the 12 stream swimmers competed at the Lethbridge Spring Challenge. For the swimmers, the meet is a team travel meet. Swimmers ride on the bus to the meet, and parents staying home in Calgary. Swimmers competed in eight events at a four-session meet, experiencing not only competing in an unfamiliar pool, but also a shallower long course pool. As expected, best times were often broken, with the end of the races offering a battle of the will to race the competition and the swimmers to give it their all. A few swims that did not go as expected offered feelings of disappointment, reflection, and a desire to do better next time. The whole meet solidified camaraderie both on deck and at the hotel. Sharing rooms with friends offered a new insight into friendships, offering space for understanding and tolerance. The trip ran smoothly thanks to UCSC organizing the trip, thanks to coaches cheering on swimmers at the sessions and especially thanks to the chaperone crew who kept everyone within boundaries and happy. Thanks everyone for the great meet.
