Alberta Provincial Championships

October 26, 2023

Alberta Spring Champs was the final age group meet of March. UCSC sent the largest team in the province to the meet. This is typical due to the huge nature of our club. This year it was pronounced however, it is a testament to the team pulling through the shutdowns together. UCSC managed to keep so many athletes engaged and improving over the difficulties of the last few seasons. The teammates that kept each other going the groups that continued to challenge each other in running or separated swimming were so rewarded this weekend. And the teammate support is really the story of the weekend. There were of course the wins and the medals, and the records as there so often are. But the teammates showed up for everyone all the way through. There were heroic relay swims to get or to keep teams in contention. There was incredible cheering from the side of the pool all weekend long. Athletes that weren’t racing came and cheered and positively influenced performance. Young to old everyone was into it.

In the end UCSC won the Large Team Championship banner. It was so fitting because it was the team that won. Most of the teams fastest swimmers were in final preparations before Canadian Trials and were not yet fully rested. Everyone took care of business and help teammates take care of business challenging them to be faster and better.

It was a great team environment and wonderful way to get back to our winning ways in the team competitions.
