CSI 2024: Paris-Roubaix

June 6, 2024

The CSI meet was held May 31 – June 2 at MNP pool with UCSC members from 12 stream through Junior National in attendance. Though sessions were long, you couldn’t tell as there were UCSC best times all through the meet. The meet tested swimmers’ determination with some racing 5, 6, or even 7 times in a single day. This gritty behaviour will bode well for these swimmers both in the pool and in life in the years to come!

Two swimmers achieved their first Canadian Swimming Championship Standards: Yikai Yang in the 50 free and Mya Harrington in the 100 free. Numerous swimmers improved their times or tried new events in attempts to get ranked in the top 20 in Alberta to solidify their spots in the Summer Provincials.

After many meets this season, 8 swimmers still managed to go best times in 100% of the events they swam. Congrats on this great feat to Justin Chen, Josiah Cox, Harlow Gascon, Stefan Kolchagov, Carys McLean, Hazel Myers, Aloysia Peck, and Meghan Sutherland.

Finally, every night of the meet ended off with a 4x50 relay – free, medley, and mixed medley respectively by the day. It is always so much fun to watch our UCSC swimmers step up and race for the team to end a day. It’s truly inspiring to see what swimmers can accomplish when they come together as a team.

Congrats to everyone on a great meet, and we can’t wait to see the next one!
