CSI: Singapore Sling

June 7, 2025

Over 100 of our swimmers made waves at the local CSI meet this weekend, turning up the heat in more ways than one. With marathon-length sessions and a pool deck that felt more like a sauna, conditions were tough – but you wouldn’t know it based on the swimmers’ performances. From gutsy morning swims to even better final swims, the athletes remained steadfast in their processes – how they approach races, warming up and cooling down with a purpose, staying hydrated and remaining positive, all which contributed to a ton of great swims and countless new personal best times.

One of the highlights of the weekend that had everyone on their feet was the Marquee 50’s, which saw the top 8 50 freestylers battle it out in elimination rounds. UCSC was well represented with three Dinos on the women’s side, and Eliza Housman taking the win in the end. On the men’s side, four UCSC swimmers qualified, with Addison Butler ultimately winning the event. Congrats to Eliza and Addison!

Another highlight was Zhan Zhang’s 50 freestyle performance that broke the 12-year-old boys club record, going a blazing time of 27.59.

It was a weekend full of grit and fast swimming, proving once again that our UCSC swimmers know how to race hard and have fun doing it.

We are approaching the end of the season, with meets almost every weekend from here on out.  Good luck to all swimmers in their remaining meets!
