Dinos @ Summer Prov Trials
We have been fortunate to have a ton of fast and exciting swim meets hosted in Calgary recently, and the Summer Provincial Trials were no exception. With age group swimmers travelling from all over Alberta vying for a ticket to the Summer Provincial Championships, everyone was primed and ready to try and hit that final touch pad first.
We had 53 swimmers between the ages of 10 and 18 representing the signature yellow cap this weekend, many of whom attended their first-ever Provincial Trials and got to experience a provincial-level meet for their first time.
UCSC was dominant on Friday, qualifying 6 different swimmers for Provincial Champs across the 100 Backstroke, 200 IM and 50 Breaststroke. Friday night ended with the exciting 4x50 Free relay where we snagged 3 sets of bronze medals.
On Saturday, we left MNP Community & Sport Centre with 3 more qualifiers in the 50 Freestyle and 400 IM. Again, the night finished off with the 4x50 Medley relay, where UCSC picked up 2 sets of silver medals and 1 set of gold.
In an extremely tight race between two teammates, our last new Champs qualifier won the final event of the evening in the 100 Butterfly on Sunday to round out our total new qualifiers to 10, who are all about to get back in the pool to start training for their final meet of the season in about a months time.
While we had 10 new qualifiers for Provincial Champs, every single swimmer who raced over the weekend brought their A-Game. With around 140 best times and 50 podium finishes, every Dino has something to be proud of, whether they are training through July or enjoying some well-deserved time off for the summer!
