February Invitational Recap
Across the board, from TREX to National, the UCSC February Invitational provided fantastic racing opportunities for everyone. For our younger athletes, it was a great chance to race both prelims and finals at our home pool with some older swimmers to watch throughout the sessions. For our older athletes, it was not only one of their final short course meets of the season, but also a great preparation for some of their main competitions to come in March & April.
Some of the sessions went by quickly, and not everyone had as much rest between races as they would have liked, but that is what we train each and every day for, and will help prepare the swimmers for those longer, more gruelling meets in the future. These quick turnarounds also challenged the swimmers to discuss more than one race at a time both beforehand to plan, and afterwards to break down with their coaches. Energy levels were high all weekend long, and regardless of where they were at in their training cycle, there were phenomenal races across the board to help us launch into March with a running start.
