Grand Prix du Quebec 2026
We brought 16 Dinos to the 2nd Annual Grand Prix du Québec, and the meet did not disappoint.
With a handful of these athletes fresh off the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, it was a valuable experience in resetting and learning how to put a lot of racing together within a short period of time. Swimming outdoors also brings plenty of things outside our control: the sun, the heat, sometimes an incoming storm... Regardless of the circumstances, how can you best show up and put your best performance forward?
Day 1 kicked off with 10 PBs in the morning and brought 12 individual finals for that night. We had four athletes in the 13–14 200 Free final, sweeping the podium, while Sophia Meller swam exactly the U SPORTS standard in the 50 Fly. We saw most of the team hit the blocks once more for the day as we wrapped up with the 4x100 Free relays.
Day 2 saw seven individual finals, plus the 1500 Free, before finishing the night with the 4x50 Mixed Medley Relay. Big swims included Meghan Sutherland and Tuja Dreyer in the 200 Breast and Thomas Girguis in the 200 Back.
Day 3 brought plenty more great racing, but the big event of the day was celebrating Hayden’s 14th birthday from morning through finals!
By Day 4, athletes did a great job of showing up sharp - a big deal after four days of outdoor conditions and, for some, nearing the end of their second major meet within two weeks. The meet finished with the All-Star Relay, featuring teams from Quebec, BC, Alberta, and the Best of the Rest.
Swims of the Session
As voted by their peers
Day 1 Prelims: Greta Dove, Redemption 200 Free. After a tough opening race (also the 200 Free) the week before at Trials, Greta set the tone for a week of successful racing with this one.
Day 1 Finals: Sophia Meller, 50 Fly. Swimming exactly to the U SPORTS standard.
Day 2 Prelims: Thomas Girguis, 200 Back. Thomas swam to a best time and qualified for his first final of the weekend, where he came back that night and dropped even more time.
Day 2 Finals: Meghan Sutherland, 200 Breast. Swimming to 3rd place and dropping more than three seconds.
Day 3 Prelims: Luca Zaher, 100 Fly. His first time under 1:00 (skipping :59 altogether three times in a day: prelims, finals, and relay)
Day 3 Finals: Alice Zhang, 50 Back. Swimming to 2nd in a great race.
Day 4 Prelims: Katarina Gibbs, 200 Fly. A best time and another opportunity to race it in finals.
Day 4 Finals: Tuja Dreyer. Some great relay swims to wrap up his age-group swimming career as he heads off to UBC this fall.
What a great meet we're happy to be part of for the second year in a row. And now, we're back to Alberta to finish the season together with everyone at Summer Champs!
