Kelowna Aquajet Invite Recap

June 6, 2024

Quite literally, your Dinos brought the heat to Kelowna.

After a fire at the Olympic Park in Montreal, some of our Dinos were left without their big meet for April. In search of a new racing opportunity, Kelowna Aquajets welcomed us with open arms to a fun weekend of racing.

20 Dinos took off for Kelowna Thursday May 9th and got set for their first big weekend of racing since March. 30-degree days made for a warm pool deck and athletes did a great job managing themselves through the heat - getting outside for fresh air when they could, laying low between sessions, and staying hydrated.

Luca Zaher and Tania Bahkshi grabbed their first-ever CJC qualifying times on Sunday in the 100 fly with many athletes also inching their way towards their goals and new standards.

One big thing we learned was that you can still have great performances with less than "ideal" circumstances. Breakfast wasn't what you wanted, you didn't have time for the warm-up you had planned, the time in between sessions was too short, the alarm didn't go off in the morning, the pool temperature was too warm, and one hundred other things... athletes dealt with several of these circumstances and still made the decision to show up behind the blocks and put together the best race possible - and those results spoke for themselves. Best times, breakthroughs, and tough racing - our athletes put together great races every single session.

After the final session of the meet, we packed up and made our way to the beach for some pizza and a quick dip in the lake. Because racing them in the pool wasn't enough, we had to take on EKSC in a soccer match - results undetermined, but the best way to celebrate a great weekend of racing.

A weekend full of memories made to last... all our thanks to our chaperones for making the weekend a reality!
