Killarney SC Invitational Wrap Up

November 23, 2023

Last weekend, 12 Stream and TREX Dinos participated in the Killarney SC Invitational. The competition was intense and filled with fierce moments, both in the preliminaries and finals. Despite the challenges, the Dinos exhibited a strong fighting spirit, resulting in some fantastic competitive moments. This competition not only provides an opportunity to improve performance but it also offers valuable competition experience. Below is the coach's evaluation of our Dinos...

Coach Amy & TREX

The TREX squad had a great time at their first prelim/final meet of the season.  Swimmers are becoming more aware of their times and their ranking within the meet (rather than just their heat), and caring more about race plans and technique than ribbons. The swimmers did a super job of challenging themselves to maintain technique, turns, and follow race plans. TREX had several new Festival qualifiers, loads of best times, fun times in the stands waiting for their races, and cheering on their teammates. Great job TREX!

Coach Jan & 12A

The 12A had a great meet with a great amount of best times. As much as it is great to see swimmers swimming their best times, the way I evaluate swimmers’ performances is by the amount of effort, grit, and level of racing that they put into the swim, as well as how well they can follow a race plan that either they devised or agreed upon.

All this is a learning process as swimmers get feedback, learn from it, and do better (that might not always be faster) than they have done. From my perspective, the group had a great meet and I am already looking forward to the next several weeks of preparation and training leading towards the Holiday Classic in December.

Coach Jeff & 12B

The meet this weekend was very successful. The swimmers were very prepared with race plans and technical focuses. After the races they were outstanding at analyzing their outcomes against their plans. They were receptive to feedback and attempted to make corrections as the meet progressed. It was very enjoyable working with them and helping them improve.

Their commitment and dedication to their swimming is apparent. They want to work hard, perfect their skills and are learning that they can do hard things. They accept challenges without complaint and the energy within the group is positive.

A big part of their success is owed to the parents that get them to practices and do all the things that make swimming possible. A big thanks to you and all the hard work you do.

Looking forward to the training ahead and the improvements that will be obtained at the next competition.

Coach Tao & 12C

In the KSC competition, the 12C swimmers who participated performed exceptionally well. This experience allowed them to better understand their abilities as they competed in events they had never tried before. Learning new race strategies and accumulating experience, the swimmers' self-confidence has greatly improved. They are now more motivated to achieve their future goals and aspirations through their training.

Congratulations to all the 12C swimmers on their progress, with a special mention to Sullivan Scabar and Mila Chen for achieving their provincial standards in 50m Br and 100m Br events.

Coach Dan & 12D

The Killarney Invitational was an awesome meet for 12D. We had our first finalist of the young season in Donovan Fellger, who moved up 5 places in both the 100 and 50 back to earn those finals. Most importantly, however, I thought it was special seeing how all the kids from Twelve Stream were chatting with other swimmers from other groups! Way to go UCSC!
