PCS Christmas Cracker

December 19, 2024

A strong contingent of 30 Dinos traveled to the warmer weather in Victoria to race in Pacific Coast Swimming’s annual Christmas Cracker Meet. It was a fun-filled meet with tons of holiday spirit. The pool deck was decorated, there were special appearances from Santa Clause and the Grinch, many prizes awarded, and Christmas crackers with candy inside given to all swimmers (opened after the last session).

In addition to the festive fun, there was a lot of fast swimming to be had! This meet nearly marks the end of this training cycle, and the swimmers certainly finished with a bang, a couple of weeks out of taking a well-deserved training break over Christmas.

Our swimmers had not just many best times, but huge breakthrough swims and many new qualifying standards were achieved. We swam fast in the morning sessions and filled the final heat sheets in the evenings. The first two nights of finals kicked off with the 4x50 relays. The ‘hype’ from the relays carried over into the individual events as there were loud “TREX’s” and cheering all night. The swimmers were almost always able to improve upon their morning swim and progress in the final.

The meet was a new experience for many – team travel to another province, traveling on a plane as a group, a new pool, and new competitors to race. The swimmers handled themselves very professionally all weekend long and remained engaged until the very last 800m free Sunday night.

A big congratulations to all swimmers who attended!
