Provincial Champs

March 10, 2023

Close to one hundred swimmers from UCSC competed at the Alberta Provincial Championships in Edmonton, March 2-5.  It was by far the biggest team at this annual competition.  We were both the biggest team and the best team, but not only based on the number of points earned. Yes, UCSC won the banner! But all the hard work prior to the meet showed in every heat and every final. It was truly impressive to watch the Dinos winning close races, fighting for their wins, medals, and best times. The strength of our team was obvious on the relays, where on several occasions two UCSC relay teams earned a place on the podium. The Dinos’ loud cheering rang through the pool and camaraderie and team spirit was apparent to everyone around!

Congratulations to Alexis Yuan in the 12 and under age group for breaking a provincial record in the 200 butterfly.

Congratulations to everyone who achieved the Youth Recognition Standard.

Congratulations to many new Western qualifiers.

Congratulations to everyone for an awesome meet.

The meet would not be a success without parental support. So thanks to all the parents for cheering from the stands and checking the results from Calgary.

The Provincial Championships are one stepping stone on a long journey!

Before taking a short break from training later this month, many from the older groups will compete at the Speedo Western Championships in Calgary and later at the Bell Canada World Championship Trials in Toronto, or at 1-2-3-Go Neptune in Montreal. The younger groups will compete at the John Timmerman’s Invitational in Calgary.

The future is bright and all of us are looking forward to more fast swimming.
