Team Champs Write Up

UCSC kicked off the season in our bi-annual Team Champs intra-squad meet. Bronto, Rapto, and Ptero fought head-to-head in what was a nail bitter of a team points race. In the end, it was Bronto that reigned supreme, just 30 points ahead of Rapto, and Ptero just behind them. A ton of fun was had, loud cheering all night, amazing team camaraderie, and fast swimming throughout.

It was so nice to see the interactions from swimmers in TREX all the way through our senior swimmers. The older swimmers on the team helped the younger ones get organized for their races, ensured they were behind the blocks in time (in the right lane), and even pulled a couple of them out of the pool during the relays!

The final event of the night is always a highlight. Everyone in the pool was on their feet as we watched and cheered during the mixed 4x50 freestyle relay. The combined age of the swimmers on a relay team cannot exceed 51 years, which led to some very fun, unusual teams!

Team Champs #2 will take place in June, where Rapto and Ptero will look to dethrone Bronto.
