Timmermans Wrap Up

March 23, 2023

We had 150 Dinos show up and show out for some great racing at Timmermans 2023.

Amazing performances from the 13&overs.

Great times had by the 12 stream...

The 12 stream groups had a great swim meet. Because of the way the meet was set up, with innovative super finals, it created an ample opportunity for more and more kids to swim in the finals, and get medals. The medal bag that the coaches had to pick up after the meet was a heavy one. It was impressive to see swimmers competing in the mornings and then in finals fighting for a faster swim and better placing. There were so many best times and great swims, very hard to make a good summary of all the great swims. In the meet though, there were two swimmers that broke records.

Alexis Yuan, 11, broke a provincial record in the 50back (32.34) and a club record in the 100back (1.09.80) and 100 IM (1:11.34).

Miguel Lorenzo, 12, broke club records in the 50fly (29.69) and 100 fly (1.04.99).

Congratulations on the record-breaking swims and congratulations to everyone on a great swim meet.

... and what a weekend for the TREX squad....

TREX had a great meet at the John Timmermans Memorial March 18 & 19.  Great fast swims, great learning from mistakes, great energy and enthusiasm, and great stamina from so many of the swimmers & parents in a crowded venue with long sessions, and many returning to the afternoon sessions for finals swims.

TREX had FIVE new Festival qualifiers at Timmermans, along with loads of best times.  Of course we had our fair share of disqualifications and missed bests, serving as inspiration for our next competitions.

The TREX squads are where UCSC swimmers begin to learn, not just how to train, but how to translate that training into competitiveness at a meet.  It's not always a smooth trajectory!  The TREX swimmers at the Timmermans meet navigated their latest opportunity to learn and develop as competitive athletes with great spirit.

Thanks to the NCSA team for hosting a big meet that afforded our swimmers such important learning experiences, and for all of the officials taking such care, especially with the younger swimmers.

Go DINOS!
