UCSC Claims Team Title at 2026 Speedo Canadian Swimming Open

April 16, 2026

The Canadian Open Swimming Championships in Edmonton marked an important mid season competition for the University of Calgary Swim Club. Bringing together the best swimmers from across Canada along with a strong international field, this meet is positioned at the midpoint between our January training block and the upcoming July Pan Pacific Trials. The competition provided a valuable opportunity to test progress, rehearse race strategy, and compete in a senior swimming environment. Several Paris Olympians were in fine form which made the level of the podium performances very exciting.

UCSC battled throughout the 3 day competition, capturing the overall team title. It helped having the largest roster at the meet, but it still required very strong morning performances and lifting to the level of some very strong finals at night. The depth and consistency of performances from all our athletes was a key feature of the weekend, highlighted by multiple podium finishes and a strong presence in both A and B finals, making the evenings exciting to watch for Dino fans!

UCSC showed great versatility across all the strokes and distances which has been a trademark of our program for the past several seasons. This competition also reinforced the strength of our program’s development pathway. From emerging 1st time athletes in the meet gaining valuable final experience to senior swimmers delivering consistent performances, the team showed a unified commitment to excellence.

While the results in Edmonton are worth celebrating, they ultimately serve a greater purpose. The Canadian Open represents a stepping stone. The lessons learned, confidence gained, and expectations reinforced will help direct the next phase of our preparation as we move towards the Pan Pacific Trials in July.

The work continues... Go Dinos!
