UCSC Grand Prix - Meet Write Up

October 26, 2023

The 2022 UCSC Grand Prix kicked off our long course racing for the season. For many of the 12 and TREX group swimmers this was their first-ever taste of long course racing, and overall, the team had a lot of fun!

Being the first long course meet of the season didn’t stop the swimmers from putting up top-end performances, including 13 swimmers who qualified for a new competition:

Canadian Junior Champs – Maria Cosic, Milena Cosic, Sienna Rodgers, Rachel Wigginton
Western Canadian Champs – Zoey Janzen
Alberta Champs – Joe Dong, Sophia Meller, Angelina Wang
Alberta Provincial Trials – Owen Lin, Austin Ma, Yikai Yang, Daniel Zhang
Alberta Festival – Vivienne Smith

The weekend also saw numerous records broken, with club records from Aiden Norman (100 back), Kamryn Cannings (100 free), and Milena Cosic (50 back). Additionally, the girls 15-17 relays broke provincial records in the 200 free relay (Eliza Housman, Kamryn Cannings, Kaycee Cannings, and Katie Graboski) and the 200 medley relay (Kamryn Leslie, Alicia L’Archeveque, Kamryn Cannings, and Katie Graboski).

This great competition is just step one in our 2022 racing, so we wish all the swimmers competing this weekend the best of luck in their meets, and we hope to see lots more great Dino swimming!
