UCSC November Invitational Recap

November 29, 2022

What. A. Weekend. UCSC came to impress over three days of racing at home.

The first three-day meet of the season for most, the Dinos were ready to race lots and race fast. Swimmers had a great spread of events each session, testing their stamina through long sessions and getting outside their comfort zone with some races that might not happen all that often.

The meet kicked off with some 800s and 1500s - for some, one of the many 800/1500s they'll do for the year. For others, their annual dabble in distance.

Friday afternoon we were ready to splash + dash with some fast 50s. TREX joined in the fun for the Friday afternoon session and brought the energy we all needed!

Seven hours later, we were heading home with some best times, first-time qualifiers, big events conquered for the very first time, and some new club records.

Saturday and Sunday were full days with heats, finals, and some 400s to close out each day.

The TREX groups, fresh off their success at Killarney SC Invitational, had AMAZING races. They worked hard to sharpen their skills, use their nerves and excitement for good, and keep building great communication with coaches.

Earlier in the week, Coach Tommaso and three of his swimmers from Manta Swim Club (based in Winnipeg) came to train with the National group. Eric, Ava, and Hallee stayed to race the first two days of the meet and had some great swims themselves. It was awesome having some new friends to race with and keep us on our toes.

As our last meet of 2022 is fast approaching, we've got our eyes on the prize. With tons of racing under our belts and the next meet on the horizon, how can we stay focused, stay healthy, and enjoy the process? Take the time to reflect after the weekend and take advantage of every tool you have available to you. Be confident in the work you've done, be present in your practices, and help elevate those around you.

Just over two weeks to go... Are you ready Dinos?
