UCSC Spring Start Up

May 3, 2024

Well, that was fun!

Spring Start-Up kicked off racing in this third and final cycle of the season, in an unconventional type of meet format with just six races. The kicker however is that the swimmers raced all six events offered – the 50 fly, 50 breast, 100 free, 50 free, 100 back, and 200 IM. The focus remained on race efforts and tactics, as well as demonstrating versatility across all four strokes.

Whether it was the older swimmers swimming “off events” they haven’t done in a long time, or a young swimmer pushing their boundaries and discovering hidden talents, the athletes seemed to really embrace the challenge of racing events that they may not be super familiar with. Each race brought a different blend of fun and excitement (and maybe a little bit of nerves)!

The loud cheering across the pool deck, the high-fives, and the fist bumps showcased just how supportive these swimmers are of one another. UCSC is a big, and tight-knit club.

This fun and low-pressure meet was a great way to kick off the third cycle of the year, and acts as a springboard for the remainder of the season, where all groups will be hard at work, and racing lots through to the end of the Summer.

GO DINOS!
