Youth National Development Coach

Dan Gerlach

Dan Gerlach is UCSC’s Youth National Development Coach.

Dan brings extensive swimming and academic experience to his coaching. After a 10-year age group career split between the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club and Olympian Swim Club, he swam varsity from 2018–2023 with both the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary, where his teams captured the Canada West Championship titles in 2018 and 2022. His own experiences as an athlete inspire his approach to coaching and athlete engagement.

He graduated from the University of Calgary in 2024 with a double major in International Relations and Political Science, now exploring graduate studies with aspirations of pursuing law school.

​​​​​​​Dan values athlete engagement and mindful training, encouraging swimmers to “be on top of what you are doing.” He finds witnessing the joy on athletes’ faces as they accomplish their goals to be the most rewarding part of coaching.
