Stephen Calkins

Stephen Calkins is UCSC's Youth National Development Coach.

Stephen began swimming at six years old in Pickering, Ontario, before moving to Calgary and joining UCSC in 2011. After several years with the Club, he spent two seasons at the University of Denver from 2016–2018, where he competed at his first NCAA Championships and earned NCAA All-American honours. He returned to Calgary in 2018 to continue his swimming career with the University of Calgary Dinos.

Throughout his career, Stephen represented Canada internationally at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and Pan American Games.

Stephen began coaching with UCSC’s Age Group program in 2025, following what was then his third retirement from competitive swimming. He returned to the pool for one final season with the Dinos before retiring for the fourth and final time after completing his degree in Communication and Culture.

In 2026, Stephen began his Master of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Queen’s University and took on the Head Coach role with the Golden Dolphins Swim Club before joining UCSC as the Youth National Development Coach.
