Tao Zhao
Tao Zhao is UCSC’s 12C Coach.
Tao began swimming at age nine in Sichuan Province, China, and quickly developed a passion for the sport. By thirteen, she was a member of the Sichuan Provincial Team. During her athletic career, Tao held provincial backstroke records for several years, won multiple national medals, and was awarded the title of China’s National Swimming Master.
After her competitive career, Tao transitioned to coaching, accumulating over 30 years of experience and attending numerous training courses hosted by the National Swimming Association of China. She has developed young swimmers into provincially ranked athletes and guided members of the Sichuan Provincial Team to national championships, medals, and the title of National Swimming Master.
Tao joined UCSC in 2017 and has since coached countless athletes in the 12 stream, helping many swimmers achieve Alberta Provincial Trials and Alberta Championship standards. She brings a wealth of experience and a genuine love for coaching young athletes, focusing on skill development, competitive mindset, and fostering a positive swimming environment.
