12D Coach
Tariq Lashley
Tariq Lashley is UCSC's 12D Coach.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Tariq spent more than 15 years as a competitive swimmer, representing both Canada and Trinidad and Tobago internationally. During his swimming career, he earned several medals at CCCAN, the Caribbean region’s top swimming championship, competed at two Olympic Trials, and was a U SPORTS finalist.
In Canada, Tariq swam with the Etobicoke Swim Club in Ontario before continuing his varsity career at the University of Alberta. He later attended the University of Regina, where he swam for one season while completing his degree in Computer Science.
Tariq has coached athletes across a wide range of ages and levels, from swimmers learning the fundamentals of the sport through to high-level competitive athletes. He enjoys working across that range and helping athletes continue to build their skills, confidence, and enjoyment of swimming.
Outside of the pool, Tariq enjoys experimenting with technology, building apps and machines for fun, and reading.
