12D Coach

Teddy Kalp

Teddy Kalp is UCSC’s 12D Coach.

Teddy brings extensive swimming experience and a strong academic background to his coaching. His competitive career spanned nearly 18 years, beginning in Toronto with the North York Aquatic Club. He swam varsity from 2015–2020 at both Indiana University and the University of Calgary, earning a Silver Medal at USports Championships and a Bronze Medal at Canadian Nationals. Teddy represented Canada as part of the Junior National Team at the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the 2013 World Junior Championships. He still holds multiple Provincial Age Group records in the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle for 16-year-old boys.

He graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Information Security & Privacy, and currently works as a software engineer building efficient and secure products for clients.

Teddy is passionate about fostering a love for swimming while emphasizing hard work, collaboration, and enjoyment of the process. He believes that while swimming is seemingly an individual sport, the support of a strong, cohesive team is essential for both personal and collective success. He encourages athletes to focus on building good habits, refining technique, and putting in consistent effort, knowing that results follow naturally. He celebrates progress at every stage—whether it’s a faster split, a stronger start, or improved endurance—and emphasizes the development of lifelong skills such as dedication, time management, and confidence that extend beyond the pool.
